Web Drama Poster
I was contacted by a Japanese video crew that was about to launch a new web drama for a big broadcasting company in Japan. The two main premises were that the drama's story had a cat in the center of the story and that the concept of watching the show was that you could choose which characters’ story you wanted to see. A new more interactive way of watching.
I got a mood board from the director explaining the style and mood they were going for.
The finished poster is the one you see at the top of this page. Where the oval shape in the background represents a cat eye. Since the focus was also on this drama being new and innovative and broadcasted online I added this glitch effect to convey a digital feel.
Process
The task at hand was to seamlessly blend modern aesthetics with a touch of retro allure, drawing from both B-action movie posters and the distinct ambiance of the Avengers film series. Balancing these seemingly contrasting influences required a nuanced approach, where my role as a designer involved extracting the essence from each source and melding them harmoniously.
In addition, I was entrusted with directing a remote photoshoot involving over 20 participants. Crafting meticulous sketches to guide poses and expressions, I navigated this challenge while adhering to tight deadlines and maintaining visual excellence.
This immersive experience also sharpened my communication skills, enabling me to decipher client briefs, ask pertinent questions, and unravel subjective interpretations. Despite the challenges, this journey significantly contributed to my growth as a graphic designer.
Result
Together with marketing professionals the poster received praise and the web drama gather a significant amount of attention before the launch.
